looking up

-
As I was studying for a test yesterday, the following painting by Ruisdael from seventeenth century Baroque art in Holland really struck me, with its low horizon line and its obvious emphasis on the sky:

And later yesterday afternoon, as I was driving to ballet class, I was struck by the huge expanse of the perfectly blue sky, reflecting and shimmering in the contrasting white snow beneath. It was so extraordinarily beautiful (also, perhaps, because there was that luscious hint of spring in the air).

So I have been thinking about the sky a lot--"the inns of Molten Blue"--and am thinking that I need to look up a bit more often.

  1. I simply adore that painting. What a good reminder to look up, up into the big expanse, that blue glory called sky! thanks dear.
